A Breath of Snow and Ashes (Outlander #6)

by Diana Gabaldon

A Breath of Snow and Ashes continues the extraordinary story of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century wife, Claire.

The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest.

With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence — with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie’s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future.

It was great getting to see America in 1776 and seeing the challenges brought forth by the American Revolution for Claire and Jamie.  They know whats going to happen (thanks to Claire) and yet trying to be for the revolution while hiding the fact from the Crown (which gave them the property they are currently residing on) becomes increasingly hard.  I am really enjoying this series and am sad thinking that I only have 2 more books until it’s over.  I highly recommend this book!

Diana Gabaldon is the author of the award-winning, #1 NYT-bestselling OUTLANDER novels, described by Salon magazine as “the smartest historical sci-fi adventure-romance story ever written by a science Ph.D. with a background in scripting ‘Scrooge McDuck’ comics.”

The series is published in 26 countries and 23 languages, and includes THE OUTLANDISH COMPANION, Volumes One and Two, which are nonfiction (well, relatively) works which provide details on the settings, background, characters, research, and writing of the first eight novels in the Outlander series of novels. Gabaldon (it’s pronounced “GAA-bull-dohn”—rhymes with “stone”) has also written several books in a sub-series featuring Lord John Grey (a major minor character from the main series): LORD JOHN AND THE PRIVATE MATTER,  LORD JOHN AND THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE BLADE, LORD JOHN AND THE HAND OF DEVILS, and THE SCOTTISH PRISONER.

The eighth and most recent major novel in the OUTLANDER series, WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD, was released on June 10, 2014 in the U.S.A. and Canada. The Fiery Cross (Outlander #5) by Diana Gabaldon

The Fiery Cross (Outlander #5)

by Diana Gabaldon

The dazzling fifth volume of Diana Gabaldon’s extraordinary Outlander saga, featuring 18th-century Scotsman James Fraser and his 20th-century time-traveling wife, Claire Randall.

The year is 1771, and war is coming. Jamie Fraser’s wife tells him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy—a time-traveler’s certain knowledge.

Born in the year of Our Lord 1918, Claire Randall served England as a nurse on the battlefields of World War II, and in the aftermath of peace found fresh conflicts when she walked through a cleftstone on the Scottish Highlands and found herself an outlander, an English lady in a place where no lady should be, in a time—1743—when the only English in Scotland were the officers and men of King George’s army.

Now wife, mother, and surgeon, Claire is still an outlander, out of place, and out of time, but now, by choice, linked by love to her only anchor—Jamie Fraser. Her unique view of the future has brought him both danger and deliverance in the past; her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through the perilous years ahead—or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes….

Grand, sweeping, utterly unforgettable, The Fiery Cross is riveting entertainment, a vibrant tapestry of history and human drama.

This book has Claire, Jamie, Brianna, and Roger all together, finally.  I found this one started off slow, but got me pulled in and unable to put it down after a few chapters. This one has lots of mystery and heart.  It kept me on my toes.  I highly recommend!

Drums of Autumn (Outlander #4) by Diana Gabaldon

Drums of Autumn (Outlander #4)

by Diana Gabaldon

It began at an ancient Scottish stone circle. There, a doorway, open to a select few, leads into the past—or the grave. Dr. Claire Randall survived the extraordinary passage, not once but twice.

Her first trip swept her into the arms of Jamie Fraser, an eighteenth-century Scot whose love for her became a legend—a tale of tragic passion that ended with her return to the present to bear his child. Her second journey, two decades later, brought them together again in the American colonies. But Claire had left someone behind in the twentieth century—their daughter, Brianna….

Now Brianna has made a disturbing discovery that sends her to the circle of stones and a terrifying leap into the unknown. In search of her mother and the father she has never met, she is risking her own future to try to change history … and to save their lives. But as Brianna plunges into an uncharted wilderness, a heartbreaking encounter may strand her forever in the past … or root her in the place she should be, where her heart and soul belong….

I loved this book so very much! Having Brianna back in the 1700s with Claire and Jamie was a dream come true! This book went by so fast because I was so into it.  I highly recommend this entire series! You will not be disappointed!

Voyager (Outlander #3) by Diana Gabaldon

Voyager (Outlander #3)

by Diana Gabaldon

Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her… and her body still cries out for him in her dreams.

Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and pain awaiting her…the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland… and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite or forever doom her timeless love.

WOW!! This book was OUTSTANDING!! I absolutely loved it. This is definitely my favorite book in the series so far.  So much happens in this book, most important being that Claire and Jamie finally reunite.  It was so great seeing them back together.  I literally could not put the book down.  I read while cooking, cleaning, folding clothes, etc.  There were lots of shockers and I cannot wait for Season 3 of the show to return.  I very highly recommend this book!

Dragonfly In Amber (Outlander #2) by Diana Gabaldon

Dragonfly In Amber (Outlander #2)

by Diana Gabaldon

For nearly twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland’s majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones… about a love that transcends the boundaries of time… and about Jamie Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his.

Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire’s spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart… in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising… and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.

This book was so hard for me going into it because I knew what was coming. (The only bad part of seeing the show before reading the books) I did not want to see Jamie and Claire separated, especially by 200 years.  It was so fun feeling like you were also researching right along with Claire and Roger, trying to find out what happened to Jamie and the other highlanders.  If you have not started this series yet and you love the show, you must read the books!! I promise you won’t be disappointed.  I very highly recommend!

Outlander (Outlander #1) by Diana Gabaldon

Outlander (Outlander #1)

by Diana Gabaldon

The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

I wish that I could go back in time and start reading this book immediately after I saw the first episode on STARZ and fell head over heels for the characters Jamie and Claire.  There is so much more to the story than you get from just watching the show.  I was apprehensive to read the book at first because I thought it would ruin the show for me, but that could not be further from the truth.  This first book was OUTSTANDING from the first page to the last.  I very highly recommend this book!

My Take

I fell in love with this book from page 1! It has lots of action (which I love) and lots of STEAMY SEX (which I love even more).  Aleks and Natalie’s story blew me away from the start.  I loved their instant connection, and the sexual tension could be cut with a knife.  I loved seeing Natalie go from being a little apprehensive prude to strong-willed sex kitten.  The twists and turns in this book will keep you enthralled to the very end.  I very highly recommend this book!

My Take

What an amazing book! I loved every single page and was so sad when it ended. I wanted more of the “Ruso” and the “hot mami”! Cat Marin is a strong willed Cuban who is on the run and Maxim is a Russian mafia boss who thought he’d never have a HEA. I absolutely loved the banter between these two characters! This book kept me on my toes and wanting more. I very highly recommend this book! If you haven’t read the first book, it’s okay to read this one, but I would recommend reading the first book just because it is equally amazing!

Friction (A Legal Affairs Novel)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: October 27, 2015

Synopsis:
At the powerhouse law firm of Knight & Payne, winning comes first and ethics a distant second. Leary Michaels uses her female charms to daze opponents, and it’s always worked well—until now. On her most personal case yet, she finds herself going up against a defense attorney just as skilled, shameless, and seductive as she is.

Reeve Holloway has never met a woman as sure of her own sexuality, or as ruthless in wielding it, as Leary is. But he won’t be toyed with. What Leary starts, he’ll finish—in the courtroom, the bedroom, or any-damn-place he wants. The sex is uninhibited, electrifying, and absolutely against the rules. Reeve’s job is to ruin Leary’s case…even if it destroys her in the process and costs him the woman he’s come to love.

Review:

Wow. Just Wow.  That was seriously HOT!  Starting right with page one I had to look around while reading it to see if anyone could see me getting all ‘hot and bothered’.  Reeve is sexy as hell and I absolutely love Leary with her wit and charm.  I really enjoy it when the main character isn’t an idiot who needs saving.  This story kept me on my toes wondering what was going to happen every time they met in court and especially the final trial.  This book did not disappoint.  I highly recommend this book!

Wildalone (Wildalone Saga #1) by Krassi Zourkova **REVIEW**

Wildalone

ABOUT WILDALONE:

In this darkly imaginative debut novel full of myth, magic, romance, and mystery, a Princeton freshman is drawn into a love triangle with two enigmatic brothers, and discovers terrifying secrets about her family and herself—a bewitching blend of Twilight, The Secret History, Jane Eyre, and A Discovery of Witches.

Arriving at Princeton for her freshman year, Thea Slavin finds herself alone, a stranger in a strange land. Away from her family and her Eastern European homeland for the first time, she struggles to adapt to unfamiliar American ways and the challenges of college life—including an enigmatic young man whose brooding good looks and murky past intrigue her. Drawn to the elusive Rhys and his equally handsome and mysterious brother, Jake, she ventures into a sensual mythic underworld as irresistible as it is dangerous.

In this shadow world that seems to mimic Greek mythology and the Bulgarian legends of the samodivi or “wildalones”—forest witches who beguile and entrap men—Thea will discover a family secret bound to transform her forever . . . if she can accept that dead doesn’t always mean gone, and love doesn’t always distinguish between the two.

MY REIVEW:

First off I loved the Greek mythology. It’s always been my favorite so I really loved that it started with it. Thea arrives at Princeton to get some answers and ends up with so many more questions. I was pulled in from the beginning trying to figure out the mysterious “stalker” and then later really enjoyed the love triangle. This story kept me pulled in until the end and made me want more when it was over. I cannot wait for book 2! I highly recommend this book!

Grind: A Legal Affairs Story

(Book #2 of Cal and Macy’s Story)

Sawyer Bennett

Release Date: April 21, 2015

Grind is the second book in this Legal Affairs trilogy (Cal and Macy’s Story) and is releasing on 4/21/15. Clash was released on 4/7/15 and Yield will be released on 5/5/15. Grind and Yield are full length novels, while Clash is a novella.

Grind Synopsis:

Grind (verb): to weaken or destroy gradually

Macy Carrington is not the woman I once thought her to be.

What she does not allow her heart to feel, she gives with her body. The sex between us is explosive and depraved. I’ve done things with her that would never have crossed my wildest imagination, and I can’t ever seem to get enough.

But now I want more from her. I want to figure out her dark secret, expose it and then help her to heal from it. I know, without a doubt, that Macy is capable of love, and I will grind her down until I make her accept the truth of it.

Grind (verb): to wear down, polish, or sharpen by friction

Cal Carson is not the man I once thought him to be.

Strong, determined, sexy as hell and a beast in the bedroom. He is every woman’s fantasy.

He is my fantasy.

But no matter how hard Cal tries to grind me down, my heart and secrets are mine and mine alone.
